Karina Westrick (she/her/hers), LPCC

I empower people with challenging pasts to be their most authentic selves within relationships. My experience as a trauma therapist informs my work with couples. Often, we think of trauma as resulting from a single terrible event, but invalidating environments, stifled self-expression, limited opportunities, and pressure to conform to societal expectations can leave a deep impact as well. Sometimes we carry these past hurts into our present partnerships without even realizing it, leading to confusion and distress. At the heart of my therapeutic approach is the belief that emotional attunement is essential for healing.

I create a warm environment where couples can feel seen and heard by each other. Together, we will identify and address patterns in your relationship that might be difficult to see during times of confrontation. I enjoy working with diverse couples, including those within the LGBTQ+ community and those with non-traditional relationship structures, such as ethical non-monogamy. I believe intimacy is paramount for wellbeing, and I am dedicated to helping you foster it in your life.

I hold a Master of Science in Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of California. For the past five years, I have provided therapy in diverse community settings, including non-profit outpatient clinics and rehabilitation centers. When I’m not in the therapy room, I enjoy exploring San Francisco with my two dogs and finding the best vegan food in the city.
